About Me
I am an Egyptian-American freelance journalist based in Cairo, where I have lived since July 2020. I was Cairo correspondent for UAE-based newspaper The National from January 2021 to May 2023.
Prior to moving to Cairo, I lived in Dubai for 16 years. I served as the personal finance reporter in the business section of The National and previously freelanced for local, regional and international publications, including the Financial Times, The New York Times, Newsweek and Time Out Dubai.
In the US, I had worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in Los Angeles and an editorial assistant at Newsweek in New York.
I received my Masters degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York and my BA in Communication from the University of Southern California. I grew up mostly in Los Angeles, but I lived in Cairo during middle school and a year abroad at the American University in Cairo.
In my free time, I am an avid runner and have completed 10 marathons, including Los Angeles, Dubai, Paris, Berlin, Boston, London, Rome and New York. I also love traveling and anything that gets my adrenaline pumping - from skydiving to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Finally, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three energetic boys.
